Warren County has experienced challenges unlike just about any other NC jurisdiction. The placement of a PCB landfill in the county in the 1970s sparked the modern-day environmental justice movement. Lack of investment has also resulted in Warren County ranking as one of the State’s most economically distressed. However, the county has many assets that are ripe for being leveraged, including the presence of Kerr Lake and Lake Gaston, the presence of a major transportation corridor in the northwest corner (I-85), and the planned S-Line stop in Norlina. Warren County was recently awarded a $500,000 brownfields assessment grant from the EPA. Mid-Atlantic is proud to have been chosen to assist the county in implementing this project, using brownfields redevelopment efforts in conjunction with the County’s planned economic development initiatives.
