On October, 25, 2018, the Rocky Mount Event Center held its grand opening. At the grand opening ceremony, The North Carolina Brownfields Program highlighted the project as its 500th brownfields agreement. The 165,000 square foot facility was built on a downtown brownfield site that consisted of over 25 separate parcels. Mid-Atlantic conducted the environmental assessments, oversaw remediation activities before and during construction, and provided brownfield consulting services to the city throughout the process. Funding for the brownfields process was partially funded by the Upper Coastal Plain Council of Governments through a grant provided by the EPA. The Rocky Mount Event Center is North Carolina’s newest destination for sports and events. It is a state-of-the-art sports facility and event complex poised to host people and teams from across the region for sports, music, entertainment, weddings, and special events. The facility can be set up with up to 8 regulation basketball courts or 16 volleyball courts. It also has full concession facilities and a family entertainment and adventure center.
