Mid-Atlantic Facilitates Durham Environmental Technician Recruitment Event

The City of Durham Office of Economic and Workforce Development held the first of three Environmental Technician Recruitment Events on April 28, 2015. The extensive training received by these graduates included:IMG_1361

  • 216 hours of environmental job-related training worth over $11,000 to participating employers;
  • Certifications for Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator, 40-hour HAZWOPPER, Asbestos Worker, Lead Abatement Worker, 10-Hour OSHA General Industry, and First Aid/CPR; and
  • 24-hours of job readiness training for skills designed to make them better employees.

The program is funded by an EPA Brownfields job training grant, with this being the third grant awarded to the City of Durham. This event attracted the largest number of employers in the history of the program. Mid-Atlantic has assisted the City since 2010 by serving on the program’s Advisory Committee, recruiting employers to events, setting curriculum for the program, teaching classes and running the recruitment events.  This is the first of three graduating classes that will result from work under this grant.  The next two recruiting events will be held on October 29, 2015 and April 28, 2016. "#1 is their people. We received several competing bids for a large job several years ago and selected Mid-Atlantic in part due to the comfort and trust we had in working with them."
