City of High Shoals Awards Brownfields Contract to Mid-Atlantic Associates, Inc.

At their February 10, 2015 meeting, The City of High Shoals awarded a contract to Mid-Atlantic Associates to assist the City with preparing a grant application for an EPA Brownfield Assessment Grant.  The unanimous vote in favor of the contract was made after a competitive bid process and interview.  Mr. Greg Icenhour of Mid-Atlantic’s Charlotte, NC office represented Mid-Atlantic at the meeting.

The City of High Shoals anticipates the grant to be used for the investigation of the former High Shoals Cotton Mill, which is located along the South Fork River.  The mill was destroyed by a series of fires and has sat idle since 1996.  The Mill, which operated since the early 1900s occupies approximately 47 acres and was the primary employer for High Shoals residents.  It is the City’s desire to make the property available for redevelopment.
