PFAS Water Supply Well Sampling
Jacksonville, North Carolina
Client: Naval Facilities Engineering System Command (NAVFAC)
Mid-Atlantic was contracted by the Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) to conduct sampling of 58 water supply wells and four treatment plants at Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Base and New River Marine Corps Air Station. All groundwater and finished water sampling were performed in accordance with EPA Region IV guidelines and the NAVFAC-approved Mid-Atlantic Quality Control Plan. Samples were analyzed for a wide range of contaminants, including VOCs, semi-VOCs, PFAS, pesticides, herbicides, metals, perchlorate, and other priority compounds. Quality assurance measures such as duplicates, field blanks, trip blanks, and equipment blanks were implemented per protocol. This work supported ensuring safe and compliant water systems on military installations.

Client: City of Havelock, North Carolina
Over the course of 15 years, Mid-Atlantic has assisted the City of Havelock with management of their EPA Brownfield Grants and additional spin-off corrective action projects. Mid-Atlantic initially assisted the City of Havelock in obtaining a $400,000 EPA Brownfields Assessment. The primary focus of this grant was the cleanup of the former Phoenix Landfill, an abandoned 34-acre site of a former recycling business. The City leveraged their EPA brownfields success into a $1M grant from NCDEQ. Mid- Atlantic oversaw the use of these funds to further cleanup the former Phoenix site for use as a park, resulting in over 20 acres of new greenspace for the City. Mid-Atlantic has assisted the City in obtaining over $5.9 million in grants in total from EPA, HUD, and NCDEQ, with Mid-Atlantic overseeing cleanup efforts and the park redevelopment.
